Because of the sheer size and scope of the project, a retaining wall had to be installed to allow for water run-off.

The colors used in the brick coping and the decking mesh with the décor of the pool owners’ dwelling – the brick inlay matches both the retaining wall color and the colors of the home (pictured in the backdrop).

All equipment used in the pool is nestled behind the tall, decorative grass pictured in front of the home. Enhancing the landscape are large boulders that were excavated during the dig. They are placed throughout the pool area adding a unique texture to the grounds.

One of the more intriguing features of this installation is how water from the elevated spillover spa is distributed along the wall. This causes the water to cascade into the pool below at many points, not just directly from the spa.

With the home site replete with towering pines and oaks, the pool enclosure is a vital element of this installation, protecting the pool and spa from debris that could keep the homeowner busy doing maintenance rather than swimming.

Fiber-optic lighting further enhances the pool.

But with its slide, diving board, poolside basketball hoop and nearby sandbox and play structure, this pool area lends itself to lots of athletic activity. A bench made of snow skis reminds summertime swimmer that the pool’s power cover will be locked for a few months each year while winter sports are played instead.

But come summer, fiber-optic lighting will once again illuminate the pool, its shallow-end steps and small built in bench (near the ladder) will provide rest spots and the automatic water sanitization system will leave swimmers free to frolic.

The pool itself offers two means of exiting the 8-foot-deep diving area – the ladder and a built-in shelf that doubles as a bench. In the shallow end, three curved steps – one of which extends into a bench – facilitate access.

Using a geometric shape, and incorporating the spa neatly into the pool, this pool and spa combo is an example of simple beauty.

The raised spa features a waterfall, which flows into the 40-foot-long, hourglass shaped pool and is backlit by multicolored fiber-optic lighting. The fiberglass spa is further tied to the pool by a band of blue tile that matches the pool and spa waterline tile.
